About Us: Lori is the artist who creates the items, but we are a family business. We are Lori & Andy, the hands behind 'Beneath the Rowan Tree' ~working mom/ stay-at-home dad of a busy 3 year old daughter (Rowan).
The Rowan tree has a long history in myth and folklore as a tree of protection and magic and our shop name is derived from a 19th century Scottish-Canadian poem (in case you wondered!).
About BTRT: BTRT grew from our search for the toys and clothing for our daughter. We wanted natural, comfortable, quality items that would nurture our daughter's lovely spirit, rather than train her as a dutiful young consumer. We wanted items connected to the earth and its natural resources. And so, we began to make clothing and playsilks...
!
We have evolved from creating hand dyed and painted clothing to our current emphasis on wool and silk, including not only toys, but playscapes, sculpture and accessories. We plan to incorporate more wood products in the future.
We love what we do! This means we create every item with a commitment to quality, and a passion for play, wonder and imagination as critical elements in all of our lives.
